The YABC is a dynamic musical theatre course for 8 -18 year olds in Australia, providing an exciting mix of tuition and on stage performance.
Working each week with a professional music director and dance director will improve your technique, build confidence, and encourage you to strive towards performances. Working each week with a drama director helps improve general performance skills, increases self-esteem, and adds to the fun of working in a team.
Skills developed throughout the semester are showcased on stage in performances at the National Theatre in St Kilda.
Students may join at any age from the year they turn eight, and may progress through the hierarchy of the organisation based on their age and ability. Classes are offered for students all levels of experience, from basic entry level through to our advanced classes.

In 1995, the Victorian Youth Theatre presented a musical, SALAD DAYS, as an end of year production featuring the entire school. From this it became apparent that many of the advanced students were keen to extend their musical theatre skills.
As a result, in 1996, four musical theatre ensembles were created. This year concluded with a season of GODSPELL at the Gasworks Theatre. Subsequent seasons included MAN OF LA MANCHA, JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, OLIVER! and RAGS.
In 1999, the musical theatre ensembles became the Young Australian Broadway Chorus (YABC). This year also saw the first of our musical theatre gala performances at the National Theatre.
In 2006 the organisation commissioned the musical THE SILVER DONKEY, by Melbourne writing team Bryant/Frank, based on the novel by award winning writer, Sonia Hartnett. This production toured the USA in 2006, and was remounted for another US tour in 2008.
In December 2008 the YABC celebrated its tenth anniversary with a special end of year show at the National Theatre. Excerpts from RAGS, SALAD DAYS, GODSPELL, and MAN OF LA MANCHA were performed alongside other classic and modern musical theatre extracts.
In 2010, the YABC production of ONCE ON THIS ISLAND toured regional Melbourne and the Adelaide Fringe Festival.
In 2011, the YABC mounted the Melbourne premiere of the Tony Award winning Broadway show SPRING AWAKENING.
